“Florals…for spring? Ground-breaking…” – Miranda Priestly, The Devil Wears Prada. This is the quote that pops into my head when I start to think about which pieces I want to add to my wardrobe for spring. We know that spring is all about florals, but it can also be about the vivid and wonderful patterns we’ve longed to wear after a long and gloomy winter. It’s fast becoming my most loved season of the year when it comes to experimenting with fashion.
The best thing about spring is that your favourite winter pieces can still form a part of your spring wardrobe as they now become key transitional staples for the new season.
This style guide offers my tips and tricks for how to make your wardrobe pop for spring.
The Crisper, The Better
Let’s begin with the ultimate wardrobe staple, no matter the season – the crisp white shirt. It best complements a great pair of jeans, on any day of the week. Pair with heels for date night or sneakers if you’re running errands all day.
Since I’ve been working from home more often, I’ve realised that simply throwing on a crisp white shirt immediately elevates my mood. A good pair of jeans works well for pretty much any occasion and can be a perfect transitional piece to carry you right through spring. Styled casually with a white shirt, or dressed up with heels, this wardrobe staple has the legs to carry the season.
Stripes, Stripes, Stripes
As I've mentioned, springtime is all about the patterns, and you can never go wrong with this classic style. I love stripes on a loose satin blouse or a floaty midi skirt. The options are endless with this timeless print.
I love a good blazer! Tailored just right, it has the power to elevate any outfit. Whether your goal is to dazzle at brunch or beguile on date night, cute heels and a pair of jeans will do the trick.
To make it spring-approved, swap out the classic black blazer for one in a tawny tone. I love a tan blazer paired with loose white trousers – perfect for spring.
The Midi Dress
Who said dresses are only for summer? What ought to be a staple in any woman’s wardrobe come springtime is this number. The mid length helps stave off the slight chill that may still linger come sundown, but the thigh-high slit does wonders to welcome the daytime warmth. Long, floaty sleeves are a must if you can swing it and, of course, don’t be shy when it comes to playing with colours and prints!
The Wider, The Better
I’m obsessed with wide-leg trousers – they’re so bad-ass. I love pairing them with either a sleek bodysuit or a top in the same print or colour.
A pleated, pleather midi skirt checks all the boxes when it comes to a transitional and trendy wardrobe staple. When pairing it with a top, have fun and experiment with colour.
